Household appliances have become our reliable assistant in all areas of life, freeing up time and energy for more important things. So drying machines have become part of everyday life, facilitating and speeding up the process of drying freshly washed laundry, eliminating the need to hang it, pull ropes, and install bulky dryers. But, as with any appliance, from time to time they can have various errors and malfunctions, especially if the operating conditions are violated or the instructions are not followed. Not every such case ends up with a trip to the service; many of them can be solved without resorting to the help of specialists.
How to troubleshoot your dryer yourself
Before calling a technician, you should make sure that the appliance is connected to the power supply, the door is tightly closed, the filter is clean, and there are no kinks or kinks in the ductwork. This seems elementary; however, sometimes the cause really lies in such trivial things. The source of the malfunction can also be a depressurized air exhaust hose. This can be easily identified by an increased level of humidity in the room or by inspecting the back of the appliance for cracks and the quality of the outlet hose connection. Also, be sure to keep the air intake grilles clean and unobstructed.
Over-twisted and clumped laundry can also cause damage as it bangs against the drum walls, causing vibration and increasing the wear on the rollers. To avoid this, it is a good idea to place items inside one at a time. Excessively wet fabric or overloading can also cause trouble, as the machine simply won’t have enough power to cope with so much moisture. Insufficient air circulation will lead to overheating and automatic shutdown. Therefore, do not exceed the recommended maximum load level.
If foreign objects, especially metal objects, get inside the drum, they can easily damage it, so keep a close eye on the contents of your pockets. You can recognize that this has happened by an uncharacteristic noise emitted by the machine. When you hear it, stop the work and check if something unplanned has gotten inside. Clothing with a zipper is better to dry turned inside out, so as not to scratch the drum.
If one day the dryer stops turning on or starts shutting off during operation, there could be many reasons for this:
- Start switch
If it is out of order, nothing happens when you try to start the appliance. If a low hum is heard, the problem is something else.
- Thermal fuse
If ventilation is impaired, it may overheat and burn out, resulting in a broken electrical circuit. This part of the mechanism cannot be repaired, only completely replaced.
- Door lock
Once the program has started, the door automatically locks. If this does not happen, the mechanism is defective.
Hopefully, this post will give you some help in solving some typical dryer problems with your own hands. In case you doubt your repair skills, it is always better to contact professionals to protect your dryer from additional damage.
